NEWTON, MA – Rebecca Walker Grossman is tossing her hat in the ring for Ward 7 councilor-at-large in Newton.
In a letter to residents Thursday, first published by the Newton TAB, Walker Grossman announced her candidacy for one of two Ward 7 at-large seats. According to the TAB, incumbent Ward 7 Councilor at-large Ruthanne Fuller will not seek re-election as she will run for mayor.
Walker Grossman became an assistant district attorney in Middlesex County after graduating from Harvard Law School. She is the daughter-in-law of former Democratic National Committee Chairman Steve Grossman and worked on his 2010 campaign for state treasurer.
Walker Grossman has lived in Newton with her husband, a Newton native, for six years and said her family is "deeply invested" in the community. She has two young children who are "fourth-generation Newtonians." The oldest started kindergarten at Ward Elementary School this year.
Her chief concerns are public schools, responsible growth, infrastructure, prudent financial management and public safety, she wrote in her letter.
